Shambhala Open House

Every Tuesday Evening, 7 to 9 pm

Our weekly Open House meditation is an open door to the public, a gateway to connect with the view and practice of sitting meditation in a simple and direct format with other meditators, both beginners and experienced.

Please join us on any Tuesday evening for a free introduction to Shambhala. We begin with a short supplication chant to the Shambhala lineage, followed by 20 minutes of sitting meditation, 10 minutes of walking meditation and then 20 minutes more of sitting practice. Individual instruction is always available, free of charge.

Open House includes introductions and, after meditation, informal community discussion with refreshments, hosted by students of Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche and Ani Pema Chödrön.

Sunday Morning Shambhala Practice

Fourth Sunday of Every Month, 9 am to noon

Please join us on the fourth Sunday of each month for an introduction to Shambhala meditation in a retreat format, incorporating morning chants, sitting and walking meditation, contemplation instruction and practice, a Dharma talk and discussion.

Sunday Morning Shambhala Practice is a wonderful way to learn about the variety of practice opportunities offered within the Shambhala mandala with trained teachers of the Shambhala lineage. Christina Sears, our Head of Practice and experienced meditation instructor, leads our Sunday Morning Shambhala Practice.

Past Sunday practices have also been led by Sue and Warner Keely of the Santa Rosa Shambhala Center and Sarah Woodard of the Berkeley Shambhala Center.

Please visit our Programs page for the full schedule.

Free meditation instruction is available at any of these events

Meditation Retreats

Meditation retreat intensives are an opportunity to deepen our contemplative experience for a longer period of time. Dathün, or month-long retreat, is a popular retreat program unique to Shambhala in that it offers an opportunity to deepen our meditation practice and training in a completely supportive environment. Retreat intensives are held at Shambhala's practice centers around the world and are staffed by trained, authorized Shambhala meditation instructors. For more information, visit the Shambhala program page.

If we may assist you in locating a retreat suitable and convenient to your practice, please contact us via email or at (415) 457-4157.
