Shambhala Training The Shambhala training is based on developing gentleness and genuineness so that we can help ourselves and develop tenderness in our hearts. We no longer wrap ourselves in the sleeping bag of our cocoon. We feel responsible for ourselves, and we feel good taking responsibility. We also feel grateful that, as human beings, we can actually work for others. It is about time that we did something to help the world. It is the right time, the right moment, for this training to be introduced.
Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche,
founder of Shambhala Training
Shambhala Training is a series of weekend contemplative workshops, suited for both beginning and experienced meditators. The simple and profound technique of mindfulness and awareness is the basis of a secular path of meditation, which can benefit people of any spiritual tradition and way of life.
The sequential program includes the study and practice of Shambhala warriorship - a path of nonaggression born from the bravery and gentleness of meeting our world without bias or judgment. This path shows how to take the challenges of daily life in our modern society as opportunities for both contemplative practice and social action.
The Shambhala Training weekends consist of thorough instruction in meditation, the practice of sitting and walking meditation in a group setting, one-on-one interviews to clarify questions, discussion groups and talks by a senior teacher.
The essence of warriorship, or the essence of human bravery, is refusing to give up on anyone or anything. We can never say that we are simply falling to pieces or that anyone else is, and we can never say that about the world either. Within our lifetime there will be great problems in the world, but let us make sure than within our lifetime do disasters happen. We can prevent them. It is up to us.
