Shambhala School of Buddhist Studies
Overview: The Complete Course of Study
The Shambhala School of Buddhist Studies is a four-cycle program of practice and study for anyone interested in learning about Shambhala Buddhism and meditation. Students do not need to be or become a Buddhist to take these courses, although that opportunity will be provided for those who want to do so.
This course of study also prepares students for Sutrayana Seminary, if they desire to take their study and practice further. If attending Sutrayana Seminary is your goal, the path comprises completing the four-cycles of Buddhist study, as well as Levels I-V of Shambhala Training, and attending a dathün, or month-long meditation program, held at one of Shambhala's rural retreat centers.
Each cycle provides:
weekly classes as well as one-day, two-day, and weekend intensives
courses in each of the three yanas
a community practice intensive
teachings of Sakyong Mipham, Chögyam Trungpa, Pema Chödrön and other teachers
a central transmission and contemplation
